TIPS of the WEEK for the Cosmetic Tattoo Artist!!

Colors used for cosmetic tattooing: It doesn’t have to be an over whelming learning experience and you don’t have to purchase a big inventory of colors to keep up with what ladies desire for a permanent lip color.  I find it actually can be a lot easy than you think helping someone pick out a color for their lips. The majority of ladies usually gravitate to about 3 to 4 colors, with really only a few of them being the most popular. I find the most frequently asked for colors are   mauve, by itself, or adding rose pink or a lighter pink color, to get an even more lighter natural looking color. Also a popular color in demand is  “Miss Natural.” You can mix many colors with just a few popular colors, allowing a gallery of colors to have on hand and to be created. When it comes to brow color:  If someone were to ask me: What do you think people find to be the hardest part of doing  cosmetic tattooing when it comes to color?
  
  I would have to say the under tones clients’ brow’s often have.  It sometimes can be difficult to determine if a person has red, yellow, olive or even blue under tones.  Again, I try and simplify things by using a color by “Custom Cosmetic Colors” which is “Dark Brown” and “Light Brown” and mixing accordingly.      I find these colors are fairly neutral only in the aspect that they can be a perfect color for most people. The colors do not cater to avoiding only one undertone that could alter a color that was used on the brows.  For example : to avoid a client never coming back with red brows , you would have to use an ash- brown color,  but all your clients that have yellow, olive or blue undertones in there eyebrows would turn gray with a ash color. We as Cosmetic Tattooist do not have the luxury of working on an artist’s white canvas when it comes to the face as I described above, there are undertones to take in to consideration.  I like to ask each client: Do you think you have more red or yellow or olive skin tones?   If they say they don’t think so or they don’t know, then I like to explain to them that there is small possibility that the color I am using may need to be adjusted at the time of their touch- up appointment.  Than I continue to say the good thing is, at that point we will know what your real undertones are and what the perfect color for your unique skin tone would be and we should never have to adjust the color again. I also put this information on my after- care sheet. A client that doesn’t experience any unexpected surprises is going to be a happy client and happy clients create referrals.
